Black artists to support on Bandcamp’s Juneteenth Friday

This Saturday is Juneteenth — commemorating the anniversary of the arrival on June 19th 1865 of federal troops in Galveston TX to take control of the State and, after 2 and a half years of white slaveholders refusing to comply with the emancipation proclamation, their announcement that all people who had been enslaved there were now free. Juneteenth was just made an official federal holiday, and it’s about damn time!

Bandcamp is doing their part this Friday June 18th by donating 100% of their portion of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization that seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education in the pursuit of equality for all. All in all, Friday is shaping up to be a great day to buy some new music on Bandcamp.

To help you out, here’s a list of some of my favorite releases by Black artists (or bands featuring Black artists) that are available on Bandcamp.
